How does it work?
The Fotona 5D treatment strengthens collagen and lifts the skin by collagen contraction. New Collagen production is also stimulated
This results in tightness and increased elasticity of your skin. The synergistic laser treatments treat both the exterior of the face as well as the interior oral cavity to produce results from both inside and out.
Treatments have the ability to be tailored to the individual allowing versatility in the procedures and treatments, giving incredible skin tightening results which are natural as it has stimulated your own collagen to tighten and plump the skin.
The overall result is tightening, volumising and restoring collagen to the face which reduces the depth of the nasolabial and melomental folds (the lines from nose to lips, and lips to chin), and helps restore lip volume. The treatment will also improve your skin tone and texture.

FAQs
What does Fotona do?
Multi‑Layered Collagen Stimulation for Lift and Firmness: This strategic layering effectively stimulates collagen and elastin, contributing to noticeable skin tightening and volume restoration.
Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles: By resurfacing the skin and encouraging collagen renewal, this treatment smooths fine lines, softens wrinkles, and evens out pigmentation and skin texture, resulting in a fresher, more youthful appearance.
- Non-invasive and Minimal Downtime: This is a non-surgical procedure with little recovery time, making it convenient for most people
Ideal candidate?
The ideal candidate for Fotona 5D would have:
Mild to moderate skin laxity (sagging skin).
Fine lines, wrinkles, or loss of facial volume.
Good overall health (no active infections or severe skin conditions).
Prefers minimal downtime and low-risk procedures.
When will I see results?
Immediately After Treatment
- A subtle lifting or tightening effect
- Improved skin texture and glow
- Mild swelling or redness (usually resolves within 24–48 hours)
1–2 Weeks Post-Treatment
- Early collagen remodeling begins
- Skin starts to look fresher and plumper
3–6 Months Post-Treatment
- Collagen regeneration continues
- Results peak and can last up to 12–18 months depending on age, skin condition, and lifestyle and if you completed your course of 3 treatments.
Longevity?
The results of Fotona 5D can last anywhere from 12 months to 18 months however, this can vary depending on the individual and the specific skin concerns being treated.
Treatments: Multiple sessions are recommended for optimal results. Usually a series of 3-4 treatments spaced about 4-6 weeks apart is common. After the initial course, a touch-up session approx every 12 months can help maintain results.
Treatment Area: Areas that are exposed to the sun more frequently (like the face) may require more upkeep. Sun protection is crucial after a Fotona treatment, as sun exposure can cause the treated areas to age faster.
Lifestyle Factors: Smoking, poor diet, and high levels of stress can negatively impact the longevity of Fotona results. Healthy habits like staying hydrated, using sunscreen, and avoiding excessive sun exposure will help prolong results.
Maintenance sessions?
Usually, 3-4 Fotona sessions is recommended, spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart.
After completing the initial series of treatments, you may move to maintenance sessions. These are typically recommended every 12 months, depending on your skin type, concerns, and how your skin responds to the treatments.
Combination treatments.
Fotona 5D facelift is customisable and can be combined with other treatments such as:
SmoothEye
This gentle, non-invasive treatment is designed to tighten and rejuvenate the delicate skin around the eyes. SmoothEye reduces fine lines, crepiness, and eyelid laxity, restoring a brighter, more youthful look.
LipLase
Enhance lip fullness and definition naturally. LipLase uses laser energy to stimulate collagen production within the lips, resulting in a plumper, more hydrated appearance, without needles or fillers.
VectorLift
A unique laser lifting technique that supports the mid-face and brow area. VectorLift provides subtle lift and structure through targeted collagen stimulation, for a refreshed and more open expression.
At Kins we love combining treatments as it means you can achieve more impactful results. This is also of benefit when life is busy as less appointments are needed and there is only one period of downtime.
Contraindications
There are certain contraindications where Fotona 5D should be avoided or modified. These include:
1. Active Skin Infections or Inflammation: If you have an active infection (e.g., cold sores, bacterial infections) or inflammation (e.g., eczema, psoriasis), you should avoid Fotona 5D as it may worsen these conditions.
2. Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: We advise avoiding Fotona 5D treatments during pregnancy due to the lack of conclusive safety data. Hormones are also still settling down post-partum and can have an impact on your skin.
3. Tanned or Sunburned Skin: Having a tan, sunburn, or any type of skin discoloration (even from tanning products) can increase the risk of complications, as the skin is more sensitive to laser treatments when it’s not in its normal color.
4. Use of Photosensitising Medications: Certain medications, such as those used for acne (e.g., Accutane) or some antibiotics (e.g., tetracyclines), can make your skin more sensitive to laser treatments, increasing the risk of burns or hyperpigmentation. You should avoid Fotona 5D if you are taking these types of medications or consult your doctor for specific guidance.
5. History of/active skin Cancer or other Cancer: If you have active skin cancer or a history of it, particularly in the areas being treated, eligibility for Fotona 5D will be discussed in clinic.
6.Endocrine disorders (uncontrolled Diabetes): Individuals with uncontrolled diabetes may have slower healing responses, which can make them more susceptible to side effects such as burns or scarring from Fotona 5D treatments.
7. Autoimmune Disorders or Photosensitivity Disorders: Conditions like lupus or other autoimmune disorders may make your skin more sensitive to laser, which can increase the risk of adverse effects from Fotona 5D treatments.
8. Recent Chemical Peels or Laser Treatments: If you have recently undergone chemical peels or other laser treatments, your skin may be too sensitive for Fotona 5D. It’s advisable to wait a few weeks (as recommended by your provider) before undergoing Fotona 5D after such treatments.
9.Heart Disease or Pacemaker: In rare cases, people with heart conditions or a pacemaker may need to avoid Fotona 5D treatments, eligibility and options can be discussed in clinic.
10. Disease stimulated by light: this would include solar urticaria or photosensitive epilepsy. Fotona 5D can trigger these conditions. It is our aim to ensure every treatment is carried out safely and adverse reactions are avoided.
11. Connective tissue disorders: People with connective tissue disorders often have skin that is more fragile, thinner, or more prone to injury. The heat generated by Fotona 5D could potentially cause burns, irritation, poor healing, or other adverse effects on these sensitive skin types. The heat from the Fotona 5D can also trigger the skin’s healing response, leading to further collagen production, which may contribute to the formation or enlargement of keloid scars.
A consultation will be performed prior to any procedures ensuring all treatments are carried out safely.
If you have any concerns regarding your eligibility for a treatment, you can get in touch or come in for a consultation and we can go through the best treatment options for you.
