What is Morpheus8

Morpheus 8 is a non-surgical advanced skin tightening procedure. When we age, our skin begins to lose elasticity and collagen. This results in visible lines, wrinkles and sagging skin. Morpheus8 combines the mechanical effect of microneedling with the heat energy effect of radiofrequency. On a more superficial level you will see changes on the surface texture of your skin leaving your skin feeling smooth, soft and tight. It improves pores, wrinkles, scars and general texture. On a deeper level the procedure affects collagen stimulation which tightens the top layers of skin, this deeper treatment is excellent for visibly sagging skin like in the jowl area, underneath the chin, the neck and around the eyes. It is suitable for use across the face, neck, chest and back of the hands, effectively reducing the appearance of puffy eyelids. loose skin, swollen eyebags, nasolabial folds, jowls and double chins.

The way Morpheus8 works is by creating micro-injuries on the skin with a micro-needle that also releases heat energy. This results in significant collagen stimulation that requires approximately six months to see the full effects. Morpheus8 is suitable for all skin tones while avoiding the downtime and cost of surgical alternatives.

  • Morpheus8 is ideally for women over 40, preferabbly 45-60 years of age with visible skin laxity.

This means that your skin feels looser and sags more than it used to. This treatment is ideal for people with visible ‘jowls’, ‘turkey neck’, sagging skin under the chin/double chin, crepiness in the neck and around eyes, lines and wrinkles.

  • Morpheus8 can be used on any area of lax skin that is showing signs of ageing such as lines and wrinkles, anywhere on the body. The most commonly treated areas in the face include the lower face and neck, double chin and eyes. Knees, thighs, abdomen and upper arm skin are also popular treatment areas. Areas of the face and body that are showing signs of discolouration, stretch marks or acne scarring are also suitable for treatment.

  • You should not have this treatment if you have a pacemaker, internal defibrillator or any electronic implant such as glucose monitor, a permanent implant in the treated area, such as metal plates and screws, silicone implants, or an injected chemical substance.

It is used with caution in people with broken skin barries:

psoriasis, eczema, rashes or those prone to cold sores. You can not have Morpheus8 if you have recently been exposed to the sun. You must be at least 4 weeks post sun exposure.

If you have had filler in the last 6 months, botox in the last 2 weeks or are pregnant you should avoid this treatment for now.

  • 3 sessions are advised to generate long lasting effective results. Approximately four to six weeks apart.

  • Patients are asked to stop retinol use 1-2 weeks before the procedure.

    • You cannot be in the sun 2-4 weeks leading up to the procedure and two weeks post procedure.

    • You cannot consume alcohol before the procedure (24 hours)

    • Don’t take any blood thinners such as aspirin or nurofen that will increase your risk of bruising

    • Morpheus8 gives results by creating a reaction in your skin. Post procedure to you this reaction will look like redness and swelling with potential dry feeling and itch. We want this reaction so please do not use any medication to decrease this. For example do not take anti-inflamatories or anti-histamines. However you can take arnica tablets for the week prior to decrease bruising.

  • You will have numbing cream applied for approxmately 45 minutes before the procedure.

The procedure can take anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on how many areas are being treated. As with any aesthetic procedure everyones perception of discomfort is different but we can vary both the depth and intensity for your individual tolerance.

After the procedure you will be red and swollen. The initial redness subsides very quickly (within 1-2 days) for 3-5 days following the procedure you may feel your skin is dry, has a rough texture or maybe swollen.

For some people these side effects can last up to two weeks but this is rare.

You can apply tinted mineral SPF from the clinic instantly after the procedure.

  • Keep the area clean and avoid touching your face where possible for the day post procedure.

The day after the procedure ideally nothing should be applied to the face. However if necessary the ZO hydrating cream and Colorscience mineral SPF can be used.

No retinol use or other active products that could cause skin irritation.

No intense excersise or exporsure to heat on your face for 1-3 days. (until you feel your skin has come back to normal, this length of time can vary for everyone, anywhere from 3 to 7 days is standard)

  • Results will be visible from 3-6 months after the final session. Superficial results can be seen anywhere from 3 weeks post procedure but the real stimulation of collagen comes 3-6 months post the final procedure.
